Need-to-Know Info

Average Weather

Trinidad & Tobago are blessed with a warm, tropical climate all year round. The best time to visit is during the dry season, which runs from January to May. This is when you'll find clear skies, less humidity, and the perfect weather for exploring. This also happens to be when the world-famous Trinidad Carnival takes place! The wet season, from June to December, brings more frequent rainfall, but showers are usually quick and refreshing, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the islands' lush, green landscapes.

Currency

The official currency is the Trinidad and Tobago Dollar (TTD), often written as TT$. While you'll see a lot of US Dollars in tourist areas, it’s a good idea to have some local cash on hand for markets and small vendors. Most hotels and larger businesses happily accept major credit cards.

Languages Spoken

English is the official language, but you'll hear a colourful mix of dialects and Creole, known as "Trini English." Don't worry, you'll pick up on the local phrases in no time!

Transportation Options

Since there are two islands to explore, getting around is a mix of ground and water transport! To travel between Trinidad and Tobago, you can either take a short, scenic flight with the local airline or jump on a ferry, which is a great, affordable way to get from one island to the other. On the islands themselves, you can hire a car to explore on your own, but remember to drive on the left! For a true local experience, hop on a "maxi-taxi", which are colourful minibuses that run on set routes.

Embrace "Liming"

In Trinidadian culture, "liming" means hanging out and relaxing with friends, with no particular agenda. It's a huge part of the local lifestyle! So, embrace the laid-back pace, chat to a local at a rum shop, and just enjoy the moment.

Beyond the Tourist Trail

While the main attractions are fantastic, the real heart of Trinidad & Tobago is in its local communities. Take a trip to a smaller town, visit a local market, or simply strike up a conversation with a friendly local. It’s the best way to get an authentic taste of these brilliant islands.
